tiramisu
There is nothing more satisfying than a heaping scoop of homemade Italian tiramisu! Don't agree? That's because you haven't tried this tiramisu recipe that we have been making in my family for years! Simple and easy to whip up, it makes the best dessert to for a birthday, dinner party, or potluck.
Tiramisu is one of our favourite dishes to make because of it's versatility. Although the original will always be my favourite, Nonnina and I have experimented with different textures and flavours like Limoncello Tiramisu for the summer months and Pumpkin Tiramisu for the perfect sweet addition to your Thanksgiving meal. But let's start with the original - bursting with delicious coffee flavours and just the right amount of creamy goodness let's get this party started!
INgredients:
- 6 little espresso cups of espresso
- 3 espresso cups of Kahlua
- 500 grams of mascarpone cheese
- 1 1/4 cup of heavy cream
- 1/2 cup of confectioners sugar
- Approximately 40 Savoiardi cookies
directions:
- Mix together the espresso and Kahlua and set it aside in the fridge to cool.
- In a mixer fixed with a paddle, whip together the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream and confectioners sugar until soft to medium peaks form (approximately 1-2 minutes) being careful not to over beat. Set aside
- Dip each cookie in the chilled coffee, Kahlua mixture and line them up in a glass baking dish. Make sure to place the cookies sugar side up.
- After you have lined the dish with the first layer of cookies, spread half the whipped cream mixture over the cookies until they are completely covered.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4. * Depending on how wet or dry you like your tiramisu - if you have extra coffee and Kahlua after all cookies have been dipped, you can drizzle some of the mixture over top of the cookies before adding the last layer of whipped cream.
- Refrigerate for a couple of hours or over night for optimal results and sprinkle with cocoa powder before serving!
Buon Appetito!
With Love From, Nonnina
